Parents using drugs or alcohol

"Hello, my name is Anne Marie and I’m going to tell you what my life is like. I wonder if yours is the same.

My mum used to drink. It made me feel really angry and sad because my mum would lie about it, but I knew she had done it because I could smell it on her. My mum didn’t hardly care about herself. Sometimes she would feel dizzy and she even went to hospital. Going to hospital made her much better. I’m really proud of my mum, she has done really well.

The Children's Society helped me by talking to me about how I feel, and how I could feel better and how to stop feeling angry and sad. They were really friendly and nice and did enjoyable things when I saw them, like colouring in, playing games and even taking you places."

If you have a problem like Anne Marie's then STARS can help you feel better. They're working working on some website pages to help children and young people who feel worried about a parent to think about what they could do and who they could talk to.

If you're worried and you need to talk to someone now visit the ChildLine website or call them on 0800 1111.
