Children from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities

'My name is Jack and I'm 16. My family move around a lot so I was worried I would never be able to get a job but The Children's Society helped me to get an interview.

'Before that I was living in a caravan, so I couldn't go to school and it was hard to make friends because I was always moving from place to place. I was worried about my future because I knew I didn't have an education or any skills. I desperately wanted to have a job and earn my own money. Now I've got a part-time job, I'm not worried anymore.'

Children from Traveller, Gypsy and Roma families often face discrimination by the media, bullying at school and rejection from their local communities. This is due to Gypsy prejudice and little understanding of their culture and traditional way of life. Contact us if you are a young Traveller, Gypsy and Roma and would like to know where to go for support.
